Tombstone Pizza
Tombstone pizza has a great and distinctive sauce that I really like!

One of my best memories as a teen in the 1980's was going to our small town bowling ally where Howard, the owner of that great establishment, would have these pizzas in a chest freezer. You could cook them for about $10.00 a pop (a small grifting upgrade, I'm sure. :), eat, bowl and listen to the jukebox. If you wanted one of the many different combinations, you just reached your hand down in that freezer, grabbed it, placed money down and slid frozen delight into his small pizza oven, which was a marvel in itself, having only used a conventional oven to ever make a frozen pizza before! |
That's small town Illinois life for you. Something new was an eye opener. That was that little pizza oven. Pre Amazon and a very early Wal-Mart was in the wings in the mid 1980's, waiting to emerge to supply pizza ovens. And how.
That bowling ally was never the same after Howard sold it and moved on into retirement (that decision pretty much put a nail into the coffin of that little town I inhabited for awhile) but his taste in frozen Tombstone pizza will stick in my mind forever!
Added are jarred and canned mushrooms, mozzarella, black olives and chopped onions, a motley crew in a pizza best friend ingredient playbook, (unless you hate them then, not)! I kind of like to dress my frozen pizza up a bit sometimes...no shade to the manufacturers, of course.
