Celeste Pizza

Celeste Pizza and it's namesake is very interesting to me. Celeste (I love that name, by the way) was a real lady with drive and determination. She was from Italy and in the 1930's, made some outstanding pizzas in Chicago. Yes, there was pizza in the 30's :). She was local, she was a success, and eventually sold out to Quaker Oats. I'm sure they offered her a very nice sum. Imagine all of the hard work.

Now, she's a brand and an image. What would she think now? Smile, laugh, shrug her slim shoulders and move on with a slight panache? Did she laugh all the way to the bank? I hope so. Good for her.

I've included some videos from blessed You Tube at the bottom; they are pretty dated but interesting. In one of these videos (which I hope to clean up and edit), you'll not only see a younger Regis Philbin over acting and zany as usual, but do a cooking segment with Mama Celeste! I learned Celeste lived in Wheaton, Il at that time, had her own herb garden and was 73 years old. Good habits never die. What a sweetheart!

Pinnacle Foods owns the Celeste brand now, but there is one certain simple thing that any pizza purchaser should know; that taste and crust started from somewhere and a small idea with service in mind. Hunger identified and hunger served. Abbondanza!
