Keebler crackers are one of the most recognizable crackers in the world
thanks to that Keebler Elf, Mr. Ernie Keebler. Anyone growing up in the 70's
and 80's will remember the animated gems that pushed Keebler cookies! I
mean who doesn't like a head elf who has an elf crew that bakes cookies
and (I assume) crackers in a hollow tree? The dynamics must have been intense to get a bakery built inside a tree. An engineering marvel! I jest, though! The Keebler brand is a force to be reckoned with! Have a look at some really tasty crackers down below. |
Keebler was started by a gent named Godfrey Keebler in Philly, somewhere in the 1850's. I wondered if Keebler was from a family of immigrants; yes he was, just like Heinz of Heinz ketchup fame. You'll notice that a lot of popular name brands today are actually the brainchildren of immigrants!
The Keebler brand has been humming for a very long time. The Keebler bakery played a big part in the civil war, if you didn't know! They made crackers for Union soldiers. Interestingly enough, Keebler also makes Girl Scout cookies today!
1968 was a big advertising year because that year was the introduction of the Ernie Keebler elf and his ragtag band of co-working bakery elves! I really do think that this advertisement promo really solidified Keebler in the cracker/cookie business and it shows in the many animated shorts they put out for the brand! As a kid, my eyes would be glued to the commercials; some call it brand brainwashing, I call it entertainment with a purpose! Eat them crackers and cookies!
