Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs
Oscar Mayer hot dogs; I have some memories about the product. I worked there for one day on a hot dog line and later on I worked with a guy named Sam who used to be in the spice department at the now closed Oscar Mayer plant in Madison, Wisconsin. It's unbelievable the work involved with getting a hot dog out the door and the human labor is, in retrospect, almost slave-like if you didn't get the pay for pimping yourself out for an hourly wage. Making and packing hot dogs isn't for the meek.
I have a different feeling about hot dogs as a consumer and certainly a deep appreciation for the workers that make it happen. I want to thank Oscar Mayer workers for a nice summer evening; charcoal grilling dogs and having a few drinks with some loved ones. They make scenes & moments like that happen. Unsung heroes, for sure.
Bun Length
Oscar Mayer hot dogs had a hit with bun length franks! Somebody, somewhere complained about the dog not fitting the bun; I know I have ;) Oscar Mayer came up with the idea of stretching the dog to fit the bun and all visual aspects of the perfect hot dog got corrected! It must appeal to our puritanical practical sense and taste buds that the bun must be filled and nothing be wasted! Works for me!

Gravitating toward beef hot dogs, I believe, is simply guided by the dollars in your pocket. They are higher priced then the chicken, pork and turkey blends but then, they are a better quality dog.
